Ramsagar the National Park
Ramsagor
is known as largest and most beautiful lake. Ramsagar man-made lake located at Tejpur
about 8 km south of Dinajpur district. The Ramsagar Recreation area expands out
over about 60 sq. kilometer, with lake. The lake was known as after Raja Ram Nath
who excavated iton the eve of the battle of palashi. That time Alivardi Khan
was the Nawab of Bengal. The lake was excavated to provide drinking water to
the villagers. It is said that there was an ongoing food crisis and starvation
famine in this part of the country from 1750 to 1755 AD. Perhaps Ram Nath started
to dig the pond on the reasons for ‘food for work’ and help to survive the
famine-stricken villagers. About 1.5 thousand labors proved for digging the
Ramsagar.The water area of Ramsagar approximates 1079 m long north-south and
192.6m long east-west. Probably depth of the lake is 9.5m. There was a Ghat on
the center of the lake. The lake is enclosed by 10.75m high embankments.Ramsagar
is now a popular tourist spot under the care of Bangladesh Parjatan
Organization. Parjaton Organization has developed some features for the
visitors around the lake, such as rest room, picnic corners; Small zoo and
refreshment corner as well as play ground for children to enjoy. Popular
attractions in the spot such as fishing, hiking and sailing are also advantage.
You can also watch different types of birds like Ringed Plover, Sand Piper and
Grayish and Violet Herons. A large numbers of migratory/guest birds visit this
manmade lake which is a source of entertainment of tourists during the winter
season. It is a spectacular site and you would not want to miss it if you sight
one stuck at its beauty.
The
name of Ramsagar is noticeable with that of the popular temple of Kantanagar,
the other historical building of Dinajpur.

Route by Road: It is 414 km far from
Dhaka. It takes 7-8 hours to reach Dinajpur from Dhaka
and 2
hours from Rangpur.
By Train: The train trip is also
suitable but much longer than bus.
Route by Air: One will have to first go
to Syedpur by air. Then will have to catch a bus or rent a car to go to Dinajpur.What more nearing Ramsagor

visit Ramsagor National Park. The tourist spots are very nearing from other
locations like: Jamuna river Hotel and Resort at Sirajganj, Rajshahi Borandra
Research Museum, Natore Uttara Gono Bhaban, Paharpur Buddah Bihar at Bogra,
Mohastan Garh at Bogra, Kantajuer Mandir and Shopno puri at Dinajpur etc.

Ornamental Kantaji Temple, Dinajpur
Kantoji’r Mondir (Kantaji Temple) is located at the Birganj Thana about 12 km north of Dinajpur and about a kilometer west of Dinajpur-Tetulia road across the Dhepa River. Kantaji Temple is an 18th century brick temple. It is devoted by Hindu Master Vishnu or Narayana. Display the exuberance of terra-cotta structure at its best in Bangladesh and it is a popular Hindu temple all over the sub-continent. Terra-Cotta was used to develop the external walls of the temple.The Kantaji Temple was recognized by Maharaja Pran Nath and its development in 1722 C.E. The development of the Temple was completed in 1752 C.E. during the concept of his son Maharaja Ram Nath. Once it had nine spires (nava-ratna) before the devastation due to the earth quake of 1897.
16.23 Acer property was donated by King Jogodis Chandra Roy in the name of “Shri Shri KantiJew Thakur” to develop this temple. Today, it is one of the popular heritage sites in Bangladesh.
The tourist will be surprised to see the historical design of structure at the entrance of the temple. The "Navaratna" temple is a three storied building where four turrets are placed at the four sides of each ground. Every inches of its wall from the platform to the top of its three stories, both inside and out, pulsates with an amazing abundance figured
and floral art in unbroken sequence. The range of topic consists of the experiences of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, the exploits of Krisna. The whole temple is an example of the wealthy clay structural design which is a value of Bengal.
How to go?
Route by Road: It takes 7-8 hours to reach Dinajpur
from Dhaka and 2 hours from Rangpur.
Route by Air: One will have to first go to Syedpur
by air. Then will have to rent a car or catch a bus to reach Dinajpur.
Nayabad Mosque
Nayabad Mosque is located about 20 km
to the north-west of the Dinajpur and the bank of Dhepa River at Nayabad in
Ramchandrapur Union under Kaharol Thana. The mosque established about 1.15
bighas of land. It has been repaired by the Department of Archaeology.
Emperor Shah Alam II was built the
mosque in 1793. According to local traditions, the mosque was designed by Muslim
architectural workers who had come to this region from the west to develop
Kantanagar temple in mid-18th century. Nayabad a village near the temple, and
had designed the mosque for their own use.
It is a rectangular three-domed mosque
with octagonal minaret shape at the four corners. All the walls are 1.10 miters
thick. There are three arched entryways and these are equivalent in height and
width. The main arch is 1.15m wide and 1.95 miters high. The south and north
sides of the mosque there is an arched window each. Multi-cusped archways have
been used in the entrances and windows. There are three Mihrabs in the west
side of the walls in range with the three entryways. The main Mihrab is larger
than the flanking ones which are of equivalent size. Three hemispherical domes cover
the mosque, of which the main one is larger than the part ones.
Of the octagonal minaret shape at the
four corners of the mosque two (northeastern and northwestern) still have
cupolas on their top. The top of the other two is now exposed. The corner minarets
are gradually tapering; each had a lantern-like Chhatri on the top crowned with
a cupola. Four groups at frequent durations beautify the outer surface of each
structure.
The clay plaques (terracotta) used in
the design of the mosque has become loose and most of them have been broken.
There is about 104 clay (terracotta) use in the outer surface of the mosque. Though
broken some of them display flower and creeper and floral elements. It is
popular that one contains a construal of a couple of peacocks.
The Theme Park Shopnopuri at Dinajpur
In the District of Dinajpur there is a
large theme Park Shopnopuri which is
at Aftabganj of Nababganj Upzilla. This theme
park covers 920 acre of land. Two statues of angels are waiting to welcome
you at the gate. This park is separated into some parts. After coming into
Shopnopuri, you can go to “Fish World”. Its entry fee is only 5 taka per visitor.
You can see artificial water plants, fish and various water animals in the
“Fish World”.
Shopnopuri is also one of the most
wonderful picnic spot in Bangladesh especially in North Bengal. There you can enjoy
here by viewing natural and artificial beauty. Anyone can stay here at night in
Shoponopuri rest house but
for that he or she will have to book in advance.

Region: Shoponopuri theme park is about 55 km from Dinajpur
Town, 14km from Phulbari Upzilla.
Best Time to Visit: 01-October to 31-March.

Route by Road: It is 390 km far from Dhaka. It takes
7-8 hours to reach Dinajpur from Dhaka and 30 minutes from Phulbari.
By Train: The train trip is also suitable but
much longer than bus.
Route by Air: One will have to first go to Syedpur
by air. Then will have to catch a bus or rent a car to reach Shoponopuri theme
park.
